North St. Louis County

To better serve patients throughout the greater St. Louis area, Siteman Cancer Center has expanded to north St. Louis County.  This new location brings nationally-recognized cancer care, including clinical trials for innovative cancer therapies, to residents in north St. Louis, the northern St. Louis suburbs, southern Illinois, and beyond.

Our north county facility is staffed by Washington University medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons who also practice at Siteman’s main campus in St. Louis and collaborate regularly with other Siteman and Washington University physicians.  These doctors provide multidisciplinary care, coordinating their schedules so patients can see as many as three physicians in one trip and have their entire treatment plan determined in a single visit.

In addition to Washington University Physicians, our staff includes registered nurses with specialized training in caring for cancer patients.  A research coordinator is also available to talk with patients about possible participation in clinical trials, which provide access to new medications and treatments not available at most cancer centers.

Patients who come to our north county location can also take advantage of a wide range of support services and therapies aimed at helping them feel their best as they undergo treatment for cancer.  Some of our programs include Therapeutic Horticulture with the Missouri Botanical Gardens, Pet Therapy with therapy dogs, and virtual programs and services like gentle yoga. We also have trained social workers on staff who can help patients with specific problems at home or at work that might arise during treatment.

We have now opened a new, free-standing building at Northwest HealthCare in Florissant.  At this nearly 37,000-square-foot center, patients will be able to receive high-tech treatments in a warm, soothing environment decorated with paintings by noted local artists and enhanced by a healing garden.

The Therapeutic Horticulture team of the Missouri Botanical Garden brings nature to every Siteman location with activities designed especially for patients who are in infusion units or who have been admitted to an in-patient room. Hands-on activities like arranging flowers and creating herbal tea blends benefit patients’ well-being and encourage their creative expression. These sessions are highly personalized with one-on-one attention from a Therapeutic Horticulture team member and you.

Pet Therapy

On a regular basis, pet therapy volunteers take their highly trained and certified dogs to visit patients in both outpatient treatment areas and in-patient units. Interacting with animals have proven physical and mental health benefits for patients and can be a welcome comfort when you are with us. These teams rotate among all of our locations, so their visits times and days vary. You may not see one of our pet therapy teams at every visit. But it gives something to look forward to when they do walk into your room.
