Research Interest

Dr. Martin-Giacalone has a longstanding interest in understanding and addressing the social conditions that influence health inequities. Using community-engaged research frameworks, Dr. Martin-Giacalone has a special focus in determining how social conditions influence cancer biological pathways and create inequities in cancer incidence and mortality. To do this, Dr. Martin-Giacalone applies methods across the fields of genetic and social epidemiology using an ecosocial theoretical approach. Ultimately, the goal of her research is to inform health policy efforts for reducing inequities in health.
