Using state-of-the-art digital equipment that emits the lowest possible radiation dose, technologists obtain two-view mammograms. Each exam takes about 20 minutes, requiring very little time from a woman\u2019s busy schedule. Results are reported to the patient and her physician within seven to 10 days.\r\n\r\nOur mobile mammography program is the longest running of its kind in the country.\u00a0 Our newest van, which spans 40 feet in length, is the fourth in three decades for Siteman Cancer Center.\r\n\r\nThe van is also equipped with high-resolution 3-D digital technology called tomosynthesis. This technology uses X-rays to create multiple images. Then a computer digitally recreates the breast, allowing the radiologist to page through the scans on a computer screen like pages in a book or on an iPad or Kindle, seeing the breast one millimeter at a time. This technology has been shown to not only reduce false alarms, but also help reveal more breast cancers.\r\n\r\nThe mammography van is certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The fee will be billed to the patient, her insurance company, Medicare or Medicaid.
