Definition of endocervix

endocervix (EN-doh-SER-vix): The inner part of the cervix that forms a canal that connects the vagina to the uterus. The endocervix is lined with glandular cells that make mucus. During a pelvic exam, cells may be scraped from the endocervix so they can be checked under a microscope for infection, inflammation, cervical cancer, or changes that may become cervical cancer. A type of cervical cancer that begins in cells of the endocervix is called cervical adenocarcinoma. Also called endocervical canal.
