Definition of orthodontist

orthodontist (OR-thuh-DON-tist): A dentist who has special training in preventing, diagnosing, and treating certain problems of the teeth and jaws, such as crooked or crowded teeth and bite problems. An orthodontist uses braces, aligners, retainers, headgear, and other devices to help straighten teeth, hold teeth in place, and improve bite. This can improve overall dental health, chewing, speech, and facial appearance.
