Referrals and Insurance

At Siteman Cancer Center, we do our best to help patients get the appropriate referral for a transplant. We also try to assist those who are struggling to obtain insurance coverage for their procedure.

How do I get a referral for a transplant?

If your physician believes that you are a good candidate for a blood or marrow transplant, he or she should contact our referral specialists at 314-747-3046 or 877-251-6485 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Referrals also can be made online through a secure appointment request service at https://siteman.wustl.edu/clinicians/.

To expedite the referral process, our referral specialists may ask you to fax records to us at 314-454-8103.

The mailing address is:
Siteman Cancer Center
Mailstop 90-75-563
4901 Forest Park Ave
Center for Outpatient Health, 8th floor St. Louis, MO 63108

Our referral specialists also handle requests for hospital-to-hospital transfers during regular business hours. Referring physicians will be quickly connected to a specialist physician on staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital who can authorize a transfer. After-hours requests can be made by calling the hospital’s Doctors’ Access Line at 314-747-3251 or 800-252-3627.

Financial questions

The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Siteman Cancer Center accepts almost all types of insurance. If your insurance company denies your request for a transplant, our financial counselors will appeal your case. We have been known to appeal insurance decisions 3 to 4 times to ensure that a patient’s transplant will be covered.

If appropriate, a financial specialist will be available to answer questions about health insurance and identify resources that can help cover expenses related to cancer care.
