Research Interest

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is associated with a substantially increased risk of colonic adenocarcinoma, perhaps arising from mitogen overexpression. We have applied the Affymetrix GeneChip to profile gene expression in UC patients. Members of the regeneration gene family are among the most highly expressed mRNAs in UC. Our analysis of SAGE databases also revealed overexpression in several malignancies, including prostate, breast, and colon adenocarcinoma. Our research is focused on characterizing the functional role for this poorly understood mitogen family.
