Mutch named co-chair of NCI Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee

David Mutch, MD, the Ira C. and Judith Gall Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named co-chair of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee. His three-year term begins June 1.

The committee evaluates and promotes clinical research aimed at developing new treatments for ovarian, cervical, uterine and other gynecologic cancers. Members are from the U.S., Canada and England.

“I’m honored to join such a distinguished group of colleagues,” Mutch said. “Together, we aim to build upon genomic and other advances in gynecologic cancer research to improve care for patients around the world.”

The committee is one of 12 created by the NCI to review disease-specific research. Members oversee phase II and III clinical trials, which evaluate the utility of investigative cancer therapies and methods of care.

Mutch, a surgeon, treats patients with gynecologic cancer at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
