What is the minimum age requirement to volunteer?

To be considered for a volunteer position, you must be a college student or older.

What are the training requirements for new volunteers?

Once the application process is complete and you are accepted as a volunteer, you will attend the new volunteer orientation program. As a Siteman volunteer, you must also complete a Siteman volunteer orientation program to learn about your new position. Topics covered in the orientation programs include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, safety, volunteer standards and working with patients.

What should I bring with me when I go to my interview?

If you are over the age of 18, please provide:

  • Copy of documentation from a health-care provider showing that you received the two-part tuberculosis skin test (PPD) within the past 12 months. Please note that you will need one additional PPD test if you have only had one PPD test within the past 12 months. You will be provided with the PPD testing at Barnes-Jewish Hospital if you choose not to use your own provider.

If you are under the age of 18, please provide:

  • Verification of your age, such as your driver’s license, birth certificate or passport.
  • Copy of immunization records.
  • Copy of documentation from a health-care provider showing that you received the two-part tuberculosis skin test (PPD) within the past 12 months. Please note that you will need one additional PPD test if you have only had one PPD test within the past 12 months. You will be provided with PPD testing at Barnes-Jewish Hospital if you choose not to use your own provider.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Signed parent/guardian permission form to volunteer at the Siteman.
  • Signed parent/guardian permission form to have Barnes-Jewish Hospital administer PPD tests.
How long does it take before I can volunteer once I send in the application?

The application process may take up to four weeks to complete. The application process includes filling out an application packet, participating in an interview, receiving the two-part tuberculosis skin test (PPD), passing a background check, having your picture taken for the volunteer identification badge and attending new volunteer orientation.

What are the requirements for becoming a volunteer?

To become a volunteer at Siteman, you must:

  • Commit to one year of volunteering; college students are asked to commit to two semesters.
  • Complete the application process.
  • Attend new volunteer orientation.
What if I don’t have the time to physically volunteer or can’t make a yearlong commitment, is there anything else I can do?
