South St. Louis County

Siteman Cancer Center’s South St. Louis County facility is located at Interstate 55 and Butler Hill Road and has been in operation since January 2012. We bring world-class cancer care to patients in the greater St. Louis area, southern Mo. and Ill., and beyond. Our 37,000-square-foot complex is a fresh, light-filled space where patients can receive treatment and consult with their physicians. At about 16 acres, the building site incorporates green space for patients and families to enjoy, including land set aside for a future healing garden.

The Washington University medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons who staff the south county facility also work at Siteman’s main campus in St. Louis and collaborate regularly with other Siteman and Washington University physicians. These doctors practice multidisciplinary care, coordinating schedules with their colleagues so patients can see as many as three physicians in one trip and have their entire treatment plan determined in one visit.

Our south county staff includes registered nurses with specialized training in caring for cancer patients. A research coordinator is also available to talk with patients about possible participation in clinical trials, which provide access to new medications and treatments not available at most cancer centers.

Patients who come to our south county location can also take advantage of a wide range of support services and therapies aimed at helping them feel their best as they undergo treatment for cancer. Some of our programs include Therapeutic Horticulture with the Missouri Botanical Gardens, Pet Therapy with therapy dogs, and virtual programs and services like gentle yoga. We also have trained social workers on staff who can help patients with specific problems at home or at work that might arise during treatment.

Pet Therapy

On a regular basis, pet therapy volunteers take their highly trained and certified dogs to visit patients in both outpatient treatment areas and in-patient units. Interacting with animals have proven physical and mental health benefits for patients and can be a welcome comfort when you are with us. These teams rotate among all of our locations, so their visits times and days vary. You may not see one of our pet therapy teams at every visit. But it gives something to look forward to when they do walk into your room.
